TWO Hull charities have been given a £7,000 boost after businesses pitched in to support them with a golf day.
The Hull Families Project and Special Smiles share the pay-out, which was raised during The Golf Day at the KP Club, Pocklington.
It was the second year the competition had taken place, and it raised even more money than the previous year.
With 25 teams taking part, the event, hosted and sponsored by EYG and Claughtons, is now part of the golfer’s calendar, and a major annual fundraiser.
The two charities are both supported throughout this year and next by The Smile Foundation, which partnered with the businesses for the charity event.
The Foundation’s charity manager, Andy Barber, said the companies involved have raised a “fantastic” amount which will make a real difference to the two charities.
Special Smiles is a club for disabled children and their families, who enjoy activities and days out together; while Hull Families Project helps disadvantaged families in the city.
Mr Barber said: “The figure raised is fantastic and will go towards two of our charities, where it really will help to make a difference. However, the true value is in the relationships we continue to build with the sponsors, teams, and venue, and we are already looking forward to doing it all over again in 2013.
“The Golf Day sponsors have played a big part in Smiles’ continued development,” he added.
Nick Ward, Joint Managing Director at EYG, said: “This was our second year, and we made sure it was bigger and better. Next year we have set our sights on raising £10,000 for The Smiles Foundation’s charities of choice.
“We believe it is important that businesses play their part in helping the communities that they operate in, and EYG is proud to be associated with the Foundation.”
Arrival Design and the KP Club were associate sponsors of the event.
Aaron Pheasant, Director of Golf at the KP Club, said: “The Golf Day sets the benchmark for a corporate golf day, combined with helping a fantastic local charity in The Smile Foundation. It is always a hotly-contested tournament played over The KP championship course with every golfer dressed from head to toe in Ryder cup hero Ian Poulter’s latest clothing collection. The event has a fantastic feeling of fun throughout the day and is the first date that I look to book into our diary each year."
Gary Pepper, Joint Managing Director at Arrival Design added: “We had a fantastic day at the KP Club, and it is very rewarding to know that we have helped raise such a large sum of money for two charities that are really dependant on the generosity of their supporters.”
